Internship and Practicum (9 credit hours in total).
Students in the Survey Research and Methodology MS program are required to complete an internship (6 credits) and practicum (3 credits).
The goal of the internship is to give students in the program extensive hands-on experience in the real world of survey research. In collaboration with students, internship opportunities are arranged with one of a number of commercial survey and market firms, media groups, governmental agencies, academic research establishments and nonprofit associations. These internships normally take place between the students’ first and second years of residence. Occasionally SRAM students complete their internship abroad.
A practicum report is developed from the intern experience. This may be a report which the intern organization actually needs or an analysis of issues or survey features the intern has worked on (for example, attrition, nonresponse, or pretesting outcomes). The practicum is completed either during the internship or, more usually, in the semester following the internship.
